Olympic Rower, Rory Gibbs Visits Charles Darwin Primary
Back
This March, we were excited to welcome Rory Gibbs to Charles Darwin Primary to deliver an assembly for our Key Stage 2 pupils. Rory is an Olympic Rower and competed in the Olympic Games in Paris last year, where he won the Gold medal in the ‘men’s eight’ race alongside his teammates.
Rory was inspirational to our pupils on his visit and told them about what it takes to be a successful athlete, the values and skills that you need, and how these can be translated into any career. Rory found time after winning his Gold medal to write, and explained how these values are conveyed in his new children’s book, Monkey Mayhem.
Our pupils were lucky enough to hear him read an extract from Monkey Mayhem and Rory took questions from the audience. We are so proud of our pupils, as they came out with such thoughtful and insightful questions, all throughout the reading and Q&A session. Our pupils were really engaged and showed great confidence in themselves when asking their questions.
The assembly ended with Rory allowing all the children to hold and see his Gold medal up close! It was such an exciting morning, and all of our pupils were really inspired by Rory’s accomplishments.
