175 Charles Darwin 2019

Principal's Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to Charles Darwin Primary, an ‘Outstanding’ primary school where we support and challenge children to be the very best version of themselves. We believe in providing our children with an environment that is progress led to enable each child to feel successful and enable them to develop their own passions for learning.

I have the utmost privilege of being the Principal of Charles Darwin Primary and Nursery. A place where children run into school with excitement and leave the school gates happy and smiling. It is my personal belief that all children regardless of their background are provided with the same opportunities to enable them to thrive and succeed; to be given the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions to better their lives and ultimately to have their voice heard and shape the future. One way in which we ensure this is by providing our children with 7 experiences before year 7.

Our assessment data across the school is above national average but we offer much more than just exceptional results. We firmly believe in order for a child to develop and feel successful they need to be exposed to a wealth of opportunities outside of a typical classroom. Our inspirational curriculum engages all children and develops them into confident, independent, happy and resilient learners with our core values that sit at the heart of our school:

  • Independent
  • Confident
  • Valued
  • Engaged
  • Resilient

We set the highest expectations for our children and we are proud of how much our children take pride in what they do. In order to provide our children with a wealth of experiences outside the classroom we focus on ensuring everything we do can be linked to our ‘3 Pillars’: athlete mentality, exceptional outcomes and creative arts.

Here at Charles Darwin Primary we are extremely lucky to be able to offer an excellent pastoral approach that provides all pupils with an environment where they will be listened to, challenged, and engaged throughout their school day.  Each child is also part of a house system where they can contribute to something wider than just their own class. All children have the opportunity to be a leader within the school, from librarians and lunchtime monitors to school ambassadors and our special ‘Rights Respecting’ steering committee.

We know early years education is fundamental in a child’s life, and I am proud to lead an exceptional school where our pupils can acquire the foundation blocks for a successful future. I look forward to meeting you and working together with you as a partnership to make your child’s future a successful and exciting one.
